Moose News!

Posted: September 1, 2020

Welcome back to a new school year and a special welcome to our newest moose and their parents and guardians. There are lots of new changes in our operation plans which you will hear about soon, but in preparation for our first week back the following are the absolute, NEED TO KNOW things that will help to keep you and your family safe on those first days back.

School Access: Six entrances for students.  See chart below. Parents are not permitted to enter the school except by appointment. Please phone 627-4086 to make appointment with your child’s teacher, if necessary.

Changes to Staggered Entry

Students and Parents will receive a phone call from your teacher during the week of August 31.  This will allow students to know who their homeroom teacher is prior to their arrival on the first day of school.  We have made changes to our original staggered entry plan and your child’s teacher will be in touch with you to let you know which days your child will come to school next week.

You will also be asked to confirm bussing arrangements for after school and provide a current email address and all current phone numbers.  Middle School students will be dismissed at 3:00pm this year (no early dismissal, no activity periods).

Drop-off is no earlier than 7:50, at the appropriate entrance. Please remain in your vehicle when dropping your child(ren) off, whenever possible. A staff member will meet your child at the appropriate entrance to assist them. Passive screening will be done at this time.

Parents are responsible to ensure the four Covid- 19 screening questions are applied before sending your child to school.

Students must wear a mask to enter the school and travel through common areas, where they may come into contact with other students, not in their bubble (classroom).

Once in their classroom, students can remove their masks and will be asked to sanitize their hands, before going to their desk.

All students need water bottles. The water fountains have their ‘mouth piece’ disengaged and students can only fill bottles.

Signage has been posted throughout the school designating where students may walk, wait for bathroom use and fountains. They must wear masks when using washrooms, travelling through halls.

Important Cafeteria News!

The cafeteria will not be open for the first week of school. All students must bring a lunch and drinks from home. Breakfast program will be available from Thursday, September 10th and the cafeteria will be up and running on Monday, September 14th.

Elementary students will eat lunches in their classrooms. Those ordering from the cafeteria, will have it delivered to them in their class. Microwaves will be available in each wing/ classroom.

Middle school students will eat in the cafeteria in one of two shifts, but MUST stay in their class bubble and have assigned seating.

Please ensure that your child has necessary cutlery as none will be provided from the cafeteria. Students need to bring lunches in the morning as parents will not be able to drop off lunches throughout the day.

Illness

If your child becomes ill during the day, he/she will be screened for Covid- 19. If the child exhibits two or more symptoms of Covid- 19, they will be masked, isolated in our isolation area and you will be contacted to collect them. You will come to the main entrance and ring the bell. Your child will be brought to you at that front door. It is important that you follow through on phoning 811 for further instruction. Public Health will ascertain whether your child needs to be tested. If your child does not require a Covid- 19 test, he/ she is permitted to return to school 24 hours after a temperature is normal, without meds. If your child has a Covid- 19 test, they must stay home until Public Health confirms test results (48 hours).

As you can see we are working very hard to ensure your child’s safety. We are very excited to have them coming back to school and will meet their social-emotional needs as well as their academic ones. This year more than ever, we need to have teachers and parents working as a team to offer security and support to your most valuable assets, our students. Every decision made at our school will be in their best interest. That is our guarantee to you.

Parents will have access to the full school operational plan via the school website after September 3, 2020.
