Using Technology to Help Students with Mindfulness

Posted: June 19, 2017

Our students have  been working very hard over the past couple months to help increase awareness for mindfulness and strategies that can be used to calm the mind. We have been working closely with our district guidance lead as well as experimenting with some new technologies. A few months back we also entered a Samsung contest to show how we are using technology to help solve an issue in our community. We made it to phase 2 and received an awesome video package from Samsung. It included devices to take video as well as a virtual reality headset.  We have been using the virtual reality as well as a meditation headband to help students use the strategies we learned through sessions with our district guidance lead. The devices track things such as heart rate and brain activity to give students feedback on their calming strategies.   Phase 2 of the contest consisted of creating a three minute video to show how we were using these technologies to help solve an issue in our community.  The students worked very hard to complete this video by the end of May. We did not make it as grand prize winners but are very excited to continue this project in September.  Check out our video here: https://youtu.be/DjZ1MRBdESU
