7E/7P – Language Arts – Monday 11/08

Good morning classes.

Let’s begin with the following short writing assignment:  Today we are going to compare and contrast home learning and being “in school.” Please list two things you like about home learning, and two things you like about being in school. Once you have listed your four items, please write a short paragraph (3 to 5 sentences) about each one. So, you should have a list, and four paragraphs when you are finished.

Next: you should be silent reading for at least 20 minutes. Your first option should be your library book; if you don’t have it at home, simply find something else to read. So long as you are reading something (even an article from the internet), you are checking this box.

When you finish reading, try to answer the following questions regarding the worksheets we completed in class (on sentence structure).

1. What is a subject?

2. What is a predicate?

Copy and complete the following sentences. Separate the subject and predicate in the sentences below with a backslash (/).

3. The hockey player shot the puck.

4. The figure skater moved gracefully over the ice.

5. The dog barked at the man down the street.

6. The eagle soared across the blue sky.

7. The student council president gave a speech in the cafeteria.

The final portion of our lesson will be listening to chapter 4 from our class novel The City of Ember. After you have listened, please make a list of key points/highlights from the chapter. Your list should include a minimum of 7 or 8 items.
