Friday, January 21st, 2022

Good morning students and families!

Today is our 9th day of Home Learning in 2022.

*Reminder- today at MAA there is a new package for Home Learning that can be picked up around the back of the school- bus loop for K-2 students between 9-1:30.

Here are today’s activities.

Language Arts:

Alphabet Video: Alphabet Zone | Alphabet Song for Kids | Phonics and Letter Sounds | Jack Hartmann - YouTube (right click on link)

Letter Mm:

This week we have been learning the letter m. Mm makes the sound /m/. This sound is made by pressing your lips together and making a humming sound.

Activities: Go on a hunt and find items in your home that start with m. (milk, mittens, mixer, microwave, mommy, etc.)

For an alphabet review, take out the Letter Trace sheet found in a previous Home Learning packet for a visual and find any letter in the alphabet throughout your home. Tell someone the name of the letter and the sound it makes. Bonus if you can think of something that begins with that letter! If you do not have the sheet, you can pick any letters in the alphabet you can think of.

Writing: Using one of the things you found that start with m, draw it the best you can and write a sentence to go with it using your sight words. Some examples might be “I can see a mitten” or “I see milk”.

Sight Words:

This week’s sight words are:        am at can

Practice reading these words a couple of times throughout the day.

In your Home Learning packet, complete “Super Star Sight Words can sheet. Then, take out the “can” reading sheet and read each sentence, carefully pointing to each word as you read.

Art: Draw a picture of Max the Moose. You can draw it as best as you can on your own or you can check out this video for a step by step drawing of how to draw a moose.

Do the best you can! I hope to see your pictures when we return to school.

Extension Activity if you want to try: Write the sentence “I can see Max the Moose” with your picture.

Math:

Video: Count Back from 10 with the Count Back Cat! - YouTube

You can also check out this video if you want to practice counting back from 20

ActivitiesPractice counting backwards from 10-1. Then with a partner, count backwards, taking turns saying the next number. For example, you say 10 and your partner says 9, you say 8, etc. For an extra challenge, start counting backwards starting at a number bigger than 10. For example, start at 14 and count down until you get to 1.

It is important to read to your child each day and have them go outside for physical activity.

Squiggle Park – don't forget to check out Squiggle Park for lots of great literacy activities. You can log in using the information that was sent home earlier in the year.

Check out Mr. MacKinnon’s Teacher Page for some fun and creative ideas to stay physically active!

Any completed work can be stored in the Home Learning Kit - until we return to in person learning at school to be placed in their binders.

Once again, thank you for all your support during this challenging time of Home Learning.
