Homework for the week of January 11-14

Posted: January 10, 2022

Due Date:

Monday, January 10, 2022

****Firstly, for my grade 7s: I invite you to join me for a Teams meeting tomorrow @ 8:45...grade 6s, your first Teams meeting will be tomorrow at 1:15...see you then.

As for your art lesson this week: prior to Christmas, we had been talking about the 6 Elements of Art: line, shape, texture, space, value and colour. We have been working with these elements, and one of the hardest to master, but one that will allow you to take your artwork to the next level, is VALUE (or shading). The number of values between white and black are actually infinite, but artists prefer to reduce the range to a scale of 1 to 9 or 10 (see bottom of lesson). The following video walks you through a very straightforward way to practise value scales while creating an interesting abstract piece. Note how she holds her pencil to control the value (light pressure vs. heavy pressure).

First, complete the assignment using an HB pencil (NOT a mechanical one!!). Then re-do the assignment, but this time, choose your favourite colour (other than black, which is not a colour, remember??)) and repeat the same process.
