Happy New Year!

Good morning students and families!

I hope you had a restful Christmas break with your family.

Today is our 1st day of Home Learning in 2022.

Here are today’s activities.

Language Arts:

Alphabet Review – Alphabet Song | ABC Song | Phonics Song     (Right click on link to open)

LetteLl - This week we are introducing the letter lLl makes the sound /l/. This sound is made in the mouth - with the tongue pushing up against your top front teethLizzy Lizard lays her body on a log as she makes the sound.

Letter Ll Activities:

  1. Do you have an Ll in your name? Does anyone in your family have an Ll in their name? What about your classmates’ names? Can you make a list of other words that begin with /l/?

  1. In your new home learning packet, please take out the Help Lion Find the Lake beginning sounds sheet. Color the pictures that begin with /l/.

Writing – Talk with someone at your house about the best day of your Winter break. Draw and write about it on the sheet with the title The Best Day. A sample sentence could be “I played with my brother.” “I got a new truck.” Encourage your child to write the word I and any other words or parts of words they are able to write on their own.

Math

Number 6:

In your packet- find the gumball sheet “Six Gumballs”- have your child colour only 6 gumballs in each machine- be careful some have more than six!

Practice counting to six by collecting six items in your home (Example- 6 toys; 6 socks; six crayons...etc)

Math game: If you have a dice game at home, this is a great way to practice recognizing numbers 1-6. There are dice games in the previous COVID packets that were sent home at an earlier time.

It is important to read to your child each day and have them go outside for physical activity.

Check out Mr. MacKinnon’s Teacher Page for some fun and creative ideas to stay physically active! He has added a Ten Day Dance Unit that students can try at home.

Any completed work can be stored in the Home Learning Kit- until we return to in person learning at school to be placed in their binders.

Once again, thank you for all your support during this challenging time of Home Learning.
