Yesterday was Election Day 2018 for our grade 6 government here at Max Aitken Academy. This election was the culmination of 14 intense school days where political parties were formed, and platforms and campaigns were planned and executed. In a mere 14 days, our hard working 6th graders came together in teams, creating their own political parties with unique names and slogans. They went on to discuss and debate political issues, choosing their own priorities and creating various campaign material to spread their message, including videos, posters, pins and pamphlets. Ms Bell, Ms Perry and Ms Barrieau were in awe of their amazing enthusiasm, self-motivation and engagement in this first project and are proud of the great work that they have produced in a very limited time frame. Many of our students were talking about their parties and about politics-in-general to other teachers, to each other, to their parents and even to local politicians when they knocked on their doors.
There were 9 political parties vying for the grade 6 leadership and after an epic tie and re-vote, we are happy to announce The Golden Eagles as winners of the Grade 6 leadership race. Bravo Golden Eagles!
