On Halloween, our class got together to work on a few STEM (or STIM en Français) challenges. Students had a blast and really used their minds and creativity to find solutions to our challenges. A lot of fun was had by all :)

Here are some links to videos on youtube that will help familiarize your child with numbers in French. We're going up to 80 this week! Some of these the students have watched in class and others are new!

These are the links to the songs by Alain le Lait. Students have viewed these in class.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsEz58BblMY (Numbers 1-20)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlYqz2unHKc (Numbers 20-50)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIYvC7r05mU (Numbers 50-70)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnOXzJfLuU4 (Numbers 70-100)

The following link has all the numbers from 1-100 and when you hover the mouse on top of the numbers it will say it in French. If you click on the number a small box appears and it tells you how to spell the number as well as what it is in English.

Good evening parents,

I mentioned at meet the teacher night that I would make suggestions regarding apps that can help support your French learner at home and I had the chance to show one of the apps today in class. The app I suggest every year to students who are learning to read in French or who need extra support with their sound exploration is called "Bloups! Integral". They have a free version if you would like to try it out first before purchasing. The Free app gives you a few levels but will not unlock any new levels if your son/daughter has passed the easier levels. The app is explained in English in the parent information sections at the bottom right corner if you want to know more.

The application costs 17.99$ now and there will never be in-app purchases. It does upgrade every now and then adding new materials to the game. I have bought it for my oldest and he loves to play it (doesn't even realize that it's helping him read) and my youngest will now start playing the game as well. The game has a multi-user option where you can enter each childs' name so that they can work at their own pace. Also, if you use the same apple ID for all your tech then you can just download the game on all devices in your home with the one purchase license.

I explained to the students today that this is not a "need" and that I am in no way asking parents to get this app. We will be playing it at school too every now and then. This application was designed by a resource teacher who wanted to give extra support to her French Second Language Learners and it is the best one in French that I have come across in the last few years. This past summer they added one that is similar but for math. I got it for my kids at home and they love that one just as much. The one for math is called "Blips!" and it also has a free version but only includes two levels. The app is 13.99$ but I am not "in love" with it as much as I am with the other one. Perhaps because there tends to be a lot out there for numbers that is free of charge. I will post more about a few as we start concepts in class for math. Again, this is not something you "have" to get to ensure success in the program. It is just something to help support and practice learning sounds to read in French.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns :)

Number Practice 1-30

This is a fun matching game that is timed. You need to match the written number to the number presented in French. Different numbers appear every time you play. This is best done on a computer :)

Hello parent(s) of 3LM,

We finished our first week of school and it was a busy one. We were busy learning school rules, class rules, class routines and French! Yes, we have already started. Students learned how to introduce themselves this week and ask about other students' names. It was...
