Monday, November 1st, 2021

Greetings,

Today is our first day of home learning. Our plan is to provide you with activities you can use from the Home Learning packets that were sent home in September and additional activities posted on our Teacher Pages.

Today’s activities are the following:

Language Arts

  1. Review the letters a – f. This includes the letter names, sounds, and actions.

  1. Practice printing your name with an uppercase letter at the beginning and the remaining letters are lowercase letters. Please use the correct formation when printing your letters!

  1. Tell a story about Trick-or-Treating on the weekend by drawing a picture. Assomeone to write down the story that you drew. (At this point in Kindergarten, students are learning that their pictures match their words.)

Math

  1. Practice counting from 0 – 5.

  1. We have been learning about sorting and patterning. Find something in your home you can sort. For example, socks, toys, etc. You can sort by color, size, or category. You can also sort your Halloween treats!

It is important to read to your child each day and have them go outside for physical activity.

Some websites you can use for Listening to Reading are:

  1. Storylineonline.net

  1. TumblebooksYou can access Tumblebooks if you have a library card. Go to NB Libraries, on the righthand side under Quick Links, click Children, and under Online Resources you will find Tumblebooks

Hello everyone! Happy October! Our apologies for not posting before now. September in Kindergarten is extremely busy and hectic. Then add Covid-19 on top of the usual frenzy and time gets away from us. :)

We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our new Kindergarten kiddos these past few weeks. We know how important this first year of school is in setting up a good foundation and a positive mindset for the learning years.

As you noticed, home learning packets were sent home last week. These packets are ONLY to be used in the event schools are closed due to Covid-19. If that happens, we will be posting daily on our individual teacher pages to let you know what items you will need to use.

So far this year, we have learned about bus safety, playground safety, fire safety, and lockdown procedures. We have worked on name recognition and printing, the introduction of the alphabet and colours. In Math, we have introduced sorting, patterns and number sense.

Starting this week, we will introduce two letters per week.  Students will be practicing alphabet activities both at home and school. In Math, we will begin learning about numbers starting with zero.

We hope to update our teacher pages on a weekly basis. Please check our individual teacher pages for pictures of what we have been learning and activities or websites you can check out with your child.

Please feel free to email us with any questions or concerns.

Happy learning!

Hello everyone!

I can hardly believe that we are at the end of the school year! What a different way to finish Kindergarten. I have been back at Max Aitken Academy, but it is not the same at all. The classroom and school feels so empty without all of your smiling faces and energetic stories. :(

Next Friday, June 19th, K-3 students and parents will be able to pick up report cards at the front traffic loop at the entrance to the school.

While we are still waiting to hear what next year’s school year will look like, I know that when September finally rolls around, I will be eagerly waiting to see you again!

I will be calling you this week for a final check-in and chat. I am so looking forward to speaking to you and hearing about any plans you may have for the summer.

Hello everyone!

I hope you are getting a chance to get outside and enjoy this beautiful May weather! Remember to put on some sunscreen. :)

This week's new sight words are: your, all, away, back

This week I am taking part in the Virtual Olympics with my sons.  Wow, are they competitive!  We are having lots of fun.

I will be calling this week for my weekly check-in. I am looking forward to chatting with you.

Sight Words

This week for our sight words we are looking at List 14 words –

they, went, where, will

These words can be added to your campfire notebooks if you like.

Take a look at the photo gallery of some fun ways to practice sight words!  A big Thank You to Mrs. Cameron for sharing these with us!

Reading

If you haven’t yet had a chance, check out the Raz Kids reading site which has leveled books that your child can use to practice reading skills. You can listen to the stories by clicking the headphones or read the book yourself by clicking the book icon. If you want your child’s level changed, please let me know. :)

The most important thing to remember is to read every day and enjoy the book together.

Math
On the Home Learning grid this week there is a “Shape hunt” game to play.

Remember - Kindergartens can name 2D shapes but we are not expected to know the 3D shape names. For example: “A cube” would be referred to “like a box”; "A cylinder” would be “like a can”; "A sphere” would be “like a ball”.

You will also find some fun math activities with a Spring bug theme.

Enjoy the beautiful weather this week. I am looking forward to chatting with you

Mrs. Cameron kindly shared her note to her class this week with me to share with you.

Sight Words

This week for our sight words let’s look at List 13 words –

day, down, into, looking.

These words can be added to your campfire notebooks. There are some ways to practice your site words on the sight word choice board- posted earlier. Stay tuned for a photo gallery of fun ways & ideas to learn your sight words.

Reading

Hopefully, you are enjoying the Raz Kids reading site- just a reminder that you can listen to the stories by clicking the headphones or read the book yourself by clicking the book icon.

Math
On the grid this week there is a “Shape tap” game to play as you review 2D shapes (circle, square, rectangle, triangle, rhombus)

Before school switched to Home-Learning we introduced 3D shapes by sorting them. Keep in mind- Kindergartens can name 2D shapes but we are not expected to know the 3D shape names. For example: “A cube” would be referred to “like a box”; "A cylinder” would be “like a can”; "A sphere” would be “like a ball”.
