Hi everyone.

I hope everything is going well with home learning.  You can pick up your new learning packets for next week, tomorrow, Friday, January 21, between 9:00am and 1:30pm.  Pick up spot is at the back of the school where you received your current packets.  You can also drop off your child's completed packet at the same time.

Thanks and have a great day!

Happy Home Learning!  The first skill your child needs to know is how to properly form the letters of the alphabet.  Many children create their own way to print; however, brain research is clear that learning the letters properly not only improves their writing, but also their reading skills.  Please schedule in 10 - 15 minutes each day during home learning to practice proper formation of letters.  I will email videos and useful tools to make this as pain free as possible.  Please keep in mind that printing is something that must be directly taught and is not something that children just learn to do on their own.  We have been practicing in school since September; however, many students are still not automatically forming their letters properly.

Verbal pathways will help your child remember how to print properly.  Your child must:

1.        Say it – “around like a c, close, down”

2.       Do it – print in the air while saying it at the same time

3.       Practice – using a crayon, pencil or any writing utensil while saying it at the same time

Every time they say or do, they repeat that verbal pathway.

Let’s focus on the lowercase first.

One of our favorite days of the week in Grade 1 M is Fee Choice Friday!!  During Exploration, children get to choose any exploration activity they want from my classroom.  One of our favourites is play dough.  Here is an easy recipe for play dough that you can make at home.  Please send me your pictures of your creations so I can enjoy them as well.

We have been working on social and emotional growth this term.  Please continue to reiterate these ideals at home and reinforce what students are learning at school.  Happy children learn better and become happy adults. :)
