This is a reminder that the final copy of your speech is due on Friday, April 16th.  If you are handwriting your speech, it should be on lined paper and double-spaced.  Use black or blue pen.  No pencil!If you are typing your speech, it must be typed in Times New Roman font, 12 pt size, black ink.  Remember to double space.Everyone needs to include a "Works Cited" page at the end of their speech listing the sources used for research.Use the write traits rubric handed out in class to double check that you have done everything you need to do for your speech.

I am re-posting this sheet for a student who is still working on this project.  This has already been completed by all students except for one, so it's not homework!

ALL CLASSES   All students should now have a topic chosen for their speech, and should have written a thesis.  A thesis is a sentence or two that tells the audience exactly what the speech will be about and the opinion or stance that the student is taking.  SUBJECT + OPINION = THESIS Below is a speech outline sheet that every student should complete before they start writing their speech.  They have received these in class and worked on them today.  They should be completed for homework tonight  (March 30th) if they don't finish it in class.

LANGUAGE ARTS - ALL STUDENTS   The oral presentations of formal speeches will begin on Tuesday, April 6th, 2010.  Speaking order will be determined by random draw, so ALL STUDENTS need to be ready to give their speech on Tuesday, April 6th.   Students have been working on their speeches in class and will continue to work on them in class during the week of March 29th.  They should also be working on them at home.  It is expected that students will research their topic.  They have had time in the computer lab and access to the library at school, but can do additional research at home if they need to.   Written copies of speeches are due on Friday, April 16th, including a works cited (bibliography) page.  Rubrics for the oral presentation of the speech and the written copy of the speech are attached below.   Students should also be reading their AR novels at home every night for at least 15 minutes.

This is the outline of the Oratory tasks you will complete this year.  Each student will do four assignments in total.  For assignment number two, there is a choice.  This document shows you what you will be marked on for each assignment.Students should choose a formal speech topic AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Readings have already been completed, and all classes are now working on and/or presenting their second assignments.  Work on Speeches will begin the week of March 22-26th, and speech presentations will begin the week of March 29th.     Important dates: Work on formal speeches will begin the week of March 22nd-26th. Presentation of formal speeches will begin the week of March 29th.

The cut-off for marks for term 3 is Friday, March 26th.  Therefore, all Acclerated Reader goals for term three must be reached by that date.  Many students have already met their goals, but this is a reminder to the rest that there is only a little more than a week left to achieve your point goal.
