Brilliant Night: Up, Up and Away

What: We are taking Brilliant Nights on the road. Max Aitken Academy will be the location of our next Brilliant Night. Students will build flying glider projects made from foam plates. This project is designed as a hand thrown glider, launched from the ground, or launch from an elevated location for longer flights. Prizes will be awarded for the longest flight.

Supper will be provided to students and teachers that participate. We would also love to have any interested teachers involved. Seats to this event are limited to the first 20 students that register.

When: February 23, 2017 from 5PM to 7PM
Where: Max Aitken Academy

Due to the storm day Friday, 7A will write their benchmark Math assessment Tues Dec 20.

So we've been learning about the scientific method in science.  We have completed a few labs as a class but now you are going to pick your own project (a pre-planned one is ok here) to practice using the scientific method!  You can use this site to help narrow down some topics. Remember this is a short-term project that is not necessarily your STEM fair project (but maybe you can expand this project later?).  Let's get messy!

Students will be participating in the 2016 Hour of Code this week! Why? "Computer science is foundational. Every 21st-century student should have the opportunity to learn how to create technology. Computer science is changing every industry on the planet. The basics of computer science also help nurture creativity and problemsolving skills, and prepare students for any future career" (https://hourofcode.com/files/hoc-one-pager-canada.pdf)

Over the next 10 years, there will be over 1.4 million jobs in computer science with only about 400,000 graduates qualifying for those jobs.... a shortage of about 1 million people...

Check out the attached flyer or https://hourofcode.com/ca  for more details :)
