Our boys and girls love printing their names on the smart board & they are getting really good at using their name bags!

Our kindergarten students finally got to meet each other after two weeks of staggered entry for Kindergarteners. It took a little while to learn each other names. If you hover over the picture the students name will appear:)

Hello everyone! Happy October! Our apologies for not posting before now. September in Kindergarten is extremely busy and hectic. Then add Covid-19 on top of the usual frenzy and time gets away from us.

We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our new Kindergarten kiddos these past few weeks. We know how important this first year of school is in setting up a good foundation and a positive mindset for the learning years.

As you noticed, home learning packets were sent home this week. These packets are ONLY to be used in the event schools are closed due to Covid-19. If that happens, we will be posting daily on our individual teacher pages to let you know what items you will need to use.

So far this year, we have learned about bus safety, playground safety, fire safety, and lockdown procedures. We have worked on name recognition and printing, the introduction of the alphabet and colours. In Math, we have introduced sorting, patterns and number sense.

Starting this week, we will introduce two letters per week.  Students will be practicing alphabet activities both at home and school. In Math, we will begin learning about numbers starting with zero.

We hope to update our teacher pages on a weekly basis. Please check our individual teacher pages for pictures of what we have been learning and activities or websites you can check out with your child.

Please feel free to email us with any questions or concerns.

Happy learning!

Dear Boys and Girls,

Guess what? This is your last week of Kindergarten!! It just seems like yesterday that you were arriving into our classroom with a bookbag packed full of spare clothes, Kleenex & plastic bags! You had your new sneakers ready to go as soon as we figured out which one fit which foot. You couldn't wait to have a snack & play with toys you could see & those tucked away in Mrs. Cameron's closet. Some of you ran into the classroom; while some of you needed just one more hug & a picture before you were ready to start your day.

Oh how you have all grown both in height and maturity!

Never in a million years would I believe we would be ending our year this way- with home learning due to a nasty virus called Covid! Please know how proud I am of each of you for all you accomplished within the walls of Max Aitken but also all you continued to learn while we have been home.  Our classroom is just not the same without all of you there with me these last weeks. But good knews- Mrs. Cameron is still going to be in the hallways & on the playground next fall & for many years to come.  I can't wait to see all of you whenever it is safe to return to school, in your new classrooms, and hear about all the wonderful things you are learning next year.  This Friday June 12th will be your official last day of Kindergarten but I know you will all continue to ask lots of questions & learn lots over the summer. Report cards should be issued on June 19th- stay tuned for pick up information.

Have a great week,

Mrs. Cameron

Hello Boys and Girls,

Can you believe it is June 1st today!! Last week- I hope you all found a cool place or had some fun in water during the warm weather! This week is suppose to be cooler. The teachers returned to Max Aitken today to begin planning for next year, cleaning up our classroom and working on report cards. Our classroom was pretty lonely today without all of you- miss you!

This week's sight words for List 16 are: her, over, this, want. As many of your parents are still working or just returning to their work places and some of you are heading off to daycare or a sitter- we understand how hard it is to keep up with school work- trust me I have two kids at home too! The last day for Home Learning will be June 12th and report cards will be issued on June 19th covering term 2 (Nov-March). Please just remember to keep reading & enjoying books. If you have some time, have fun with the outdoor activities on the grid this week.

Chat with you later this week,

Mrs. Cameron

Good morning boys and girls,

I hope you all enjoyed some time outside this past week & weekend -hiking to waterfalls like Brodie or camping like Wesley in his new trailer.  Did you know you can even camp in your backyard like Thomas in his new tent! I really enjoy our weekly chats as I learn how much you are growing like Jackson & his puppy! A few of you have even been losing teeth since I last saw you like Walker & Raelynn.  Last week some of you started back to a sitters or daycare & are now able to see some of your friends like Emmett & Walker. Brooke got to celebrate her 6th Birthday on Saturday & see Ellie! Happy Birthday from all your classmates Brooke!!

Many of you might be enjoying some summer treats like Ava & Ivy who were getting ready to have some ice cream-yummy. This week's grid will have some activities that involve Smores- a favorite campfire treat. I love that many of you are getting outside now that the weather is nice -Olivia has been practicing her basketball skills & enjoying some disney movies. Michael & Christian enjoy cruising on their bikes & Karson even knows how to drive without his training wheels now! Kamryn is enjoying outside sprinklers -watch out! Weston is a pro fisherman & Aethon is just learning how to fish- Fishing sure is a great activity especially on our beautiful river- I even tried a piece of stripped bass my son caught. Some of you are exploring online resources like Carter on Dreambox & Myles on Raz Kids. I love to hear all about your new adventures or your favorite activities during our weekly chats.

Sight words for this week List 15: your; all; away; back. Don't forget this week is the start of the Virtual Olympics for our Anglophone North school district- have fun competing & being active.

Take care,

Mrs. Cameron

Good afternoon boys and girls,

I hope you are enjoying this Victoria Day holiday Monday.  This weeks new sight words are- List 14: they, went, where, will. Make sure you check across the word all the way to the end. If you are looking for more ideas to practice your sight words- check out the gallery pictures "10 fun ways to practice sight words".

This weeks grid includes some fun "buggy" activities for you to practice your skills and be creative. Ms. Perry has also planned some fun activities for a "Virtual Spirit Week"- dress up days & a chance to show us any activities you are busy with while at home.

Have a wonderful week and I look forward to our weekly chats.

Miss you all,

Mrs. Cameron

Some of you may be up for a challenge- try some of these fun ways to practice your sight words from your campfire notebook.

Good morning boys and girls,

I hope you all had a chance to celebrate your special moms/grandmothers yesterday!

This week for our sight words lets look at List 13 words “day, down, into, looking”.  These words can be added to your campfire notebooks. There are some ways to practice your site words on the sight word choice board- posted earlier. Stay tuned for a photo gallery of fun ways & ideas to learn your sight words. Hopefully you are enjoying Raz Kids reading site- just a reminder that you can listen to the stories by clicking the headphones or read the book yourself by clicking the book icon.

On the grid this week there is a “Shape tap” game to play as you review 2D shapes (circle, square, rectangle,             triangle, rhombus)

Before school switched to Home Learning we introduced 3D shapes by sorting them. Keep in mind- Kindergartens can name 2D shapes but we are not expected to know the 3D shape names. For example: “A cube” would be refer to “like a box”;  "A cylinder” would be “like a can”; "A sphere” would be “like a ball”.

Have fun with your activities on the grid this week.  I look forward to chatting with you all this week.

Miss you,

Mrs. Cameron

Hello boys and girls,

Can you believe we are in the month of May now! I hope you are reading lots of books.  I just finished reading “James and the Giant Peach” to my kids by Roald Dahl.  This book I first enjoyed when my grade five teacher read it to our class.  I am sure you are finding some books too that might become favorites.  There are lots of ways to read books.  I love going somewhere comfortable with my cozy blanket as I settle into a story. The chart attached shows some fun ways to read a book or different types of books to read.

Parents/Guardians- Please do not forget this Wednesday we are having a curbside pickup at MAA of all the wonderful work students have done in kindergarten & their personal items. Check the posted schedules for your time slot.

Enjoy reading this week and I look forward to our weekly chats.

Mrs. Cameron
