Remembrance Day- is this Thursday November 11- no home learning/school. Take the time to explain to your child about the importance of remembering- maybe visit a Remembrance Day ceremony in person, virtually or watch a service on TV. These books will help, in a child-friendly way, to explain the significance of why we wear a poppy.

Read Aloud Picture Books

Art – Make your own poppy.

Draw 4 large circles and 1 small circle. Color the 4 large circles red and the small circle black. Cut out the circles and glue or tape them together to make your own paper poppy. You can put this poppy in your window or on your fridge to show you remember. See the pictures in the gallery.

Writing – Remembrance Day is about remembering the sacrifices made by many so that we could have peace. What does it mean to have peace? Peace means a time without fights or war, a time of calm and quiet. A fun writing or discussion you can have with your family is creating a Recipe for Peace. Example: 2 cups of kindness...What would you add to your recipe? See the example from the website mrsbteachesme.com.

Good morning students and families!

Today is our fourth day of Home Learning. Here are today’s activities.

Fine Motor

Scissor Practice - If you have scissors available and old flyers, cut out pictures of food and toys. When cutting, be sure to keep your elbow close to your body and your thumb is pointing up.

Video – Fitzy. Monster Show: Using a pair of scissors (1:30 mins) – This can be found on YouTube.com on the channel Kiddo TV

Art

If you can, go to the website artforkidshub.com and check out the lesson Drawing a Person with My 2-Year-Old. This link will open to youtube. You can also do a search in YouTube for Drawing a Person with my 2-Year Old (preschool lessons). Although the lesson says it is for preschool, it is a great step-by-step lesson on how to draw a person.

Try drawing the rest of your family as well!

Language Arts

Label the people in your picture. You can label your family members by asking them how to spell their names or you can write down the first letter in their names. For example, if you have a brother named Mark, you can write the letter M above his picture.

Ask someone to help you write down a sentence about your picture. For example, “This is my family.”

If you would like to send me a photo of the picture you drew, email it to me. I would love to see your artwork!

Math

Count different objects/things in your home. Take your Trace the Numeral sheet with you and color or trace the numeral after counting.

·         How many doors in your home?

·         How many windows in your kitchen?

·         How many bedrooms?

·         How many bathrooms?

·         How many stairs on your set of stairs?

Sort different objects/items in your home by size – Big or small, adult or child

Some things you might sort are:

·         Shoes

·         Blocks

·         Stuffies

·         Cars or dolls

·         Dry food containers, cans or boxes

What else can you sort by size at home?

It is important to read to your child each day and have them go outside for physical activity.

Check out Mr. MacKinnon’s Teacher Page for some fun and creative ideas to stay physically active!

I am asking that parents who have not yet responded to me to please respond as soon as you can. It is important that I keep in touch with you, and I can answer any questions or concerns you might have. Thank you!

Greetings,

Today is our first day of home learning. Our plan is to provide you with activities you can use from the Home Learning packets that were sent home in September and additional activities posted on our Teacher Pages.

Today’s activities are the following:

Language Arts

1.      Review the letters a – f. This includes the letter names, sounds, and actions.

2.      Practice printing your name with an uppercase letter at the beginning and the remaining letters are lowercase letters. Please use the correct formation when printing your letters!

3.      Tell a story about Trick-or-Treating on the weekend by drawing a picture. Ask someone to write down the story that you drew. (At this point in Kindergarten, students are learning that their pictures match their words.)

Math

1.      Practice counting from 0 – 5. You can count objects in your home, count while you are walking, and count Halloween candy just for a few examples.

2.      We have been learning about sorting and patterning. Find something in your home you can sort. For example, socks, toys, etc. You can sort by color, size, or category.

It is important to read to your child each day and have them go outside for physical activity.

Some websites you can use for Listening to Reading are:

1.      Storylineonline.net

2.      Tumblebooks   You can access Tumblebooks if you have a library card. Go to NB Libraries, on the righthand side under Quick Links, click Children, and under Online Resources you will find Tumblebooks

From the Max Aitken Kindergarten Teachers
