Good News – We will be welcoming back students on Monday! We can’t wait to see you!!

Here are today’s activities for our 13th day of Home Learning..

 Language Arts:

Letter Nn - This week we are introducing the letter Nn. Nn makes the sound /n/. This sound is made with the mouth slightly opened, with the tongue pushing up towards the roof of the mouth and against the back of the front teeth. Nigel Nightowl makes big owl eyes – use your hands to make big circles in front of your eyes as you make the sound.

Letter Nn Activities:

Go on a hunt in your home for things that start with n. For example: napkins, numbers, nightlight, noodles, nuggets, notes, etc.

Writing: On the second page of your Home Learning journal, write a sentence using the item you found that starts with n. You can use the sight words to help form your sentence. Remember, a sentence is made up of many words and not just one. Examples of a sentence might be:I like nuggetsor I like to eat nuggets. Eat is a tricky word to write because the a is silent. When you are writing a new word, say the word many times and write the sounds you hear when you say it. What sound do you hear first? What is the next sound you hear when you say the word again? Try your best!Remember to include finger spaces between the words.

Sight Words

Activity: Today we are going to review all of the sight words we have introduced so far. They are:

I       see

  a am at

can go is like

In your home learning packet, take out the “Read, Build, Write” sheet, along with the 9 sight word cards from the above list. Follow the directions on the sheet and use the letter cards to complete the activity for each word.

Art:This week we talked about the letter n and community helpers. Today we are going to draw a picture of a nurse. Check out this video for step by step instructions: How To Draw Cartoon Nurse - YouTube

Extension Activity if you want to try: Write the sentence “I see the nurse” or “I go to see a nurse”.

Math:

Activity: In your packet, take out the Artic Animal Count and Graph. There are 4 different animals to count. Pick a different crayon to color each type of animal. This will help to count how many of each animalyou see in the picture. In the graph at the bottom of the page, color each box to show how many of each animal there are. For example, there are 8 bears so color 8 boxes after the bear picture and then print the numeral 8. Complete the graph for the other animals. Which animal do you see the most? Which animal do you see the fewest?

Extension if you want to try: Compare some items at home and set them out on the floor like a picture graph. You can use blocks and compare colors or you can compare trucks to cars. These are just some examples to try. Which item do you have the most of? Fewest?

It is important to read to your child each day and have them go outside for physical activity.

Check out Mr. MacKinnon’s Teacher Page for some fun and creative ideas to stay physically active!

Please send back the Home Learning packets on Monday to be placed in the student’s binders.

We want to say a HUGE thank you for all of your support with Home Learning!

Good morning students and families!

Today is our 13th day of Home Learning in 2022.

Here are today’s activities.

 Language Arts:

Letter Nn - This week we are introducing the letter NnNn makes the sound /n/. This sound is made with the mouth slightly opened, with the tongue pushing up towards the roof of the mouth and against the back of the front teeth. Nigel Nightowl makes big owl eyes – use your hands to make big circles in front of your eyes as you make the sound.

Letter Nn Activities:

Today we are going to practice printing the lowercase n. Start by printing one line down, from top to bottom. Then, go back up the line and make one hump. Remember you can practice printing the letter n first by using your finger to make n in the air or on a table. You can also practice printing n with your finger on someone’s back or on the palm of your hand!

Next, take out the Nigel Nightowl sheet and print 10 nifty n’s around the nightowl. Then color Nigel the best you can, trying to stay in the lines.

Sight Words: The new words for List 3 are:        go       is        like

Today we are going to practice the word “like”. In your Home Learning packet, take out the bubblegum “like” sheet. First look at the bubblegum machine and color the letters to spell the word “like”. Then on the bottom on the bubblegum machine, highlight or circle all of the “like” words. There are 6 of them. Then complete the rest of the “like” activities on the sheet.

Next, find the “like” reading sheet with sentences in your packet. Find the word “like” in each sentence. How many are there? Look at the pictures to help solve new words and remember to look at the beginning and ending sounds in the new words too. Point to the words and read each sentence.

Reading: Take out the Community Helpers book in your packet. Can you think of some people who work in our community? Brainstorm some ideas before looking at the book. Open the book and look at the pictures. As you look at each page, try to find the sight words I, am, a throughout the book. The word I in this book looks like a lowercase l because it is missing the top and bottom of the capital I. Sometimes we see I written like this. Carefully read through the book, tracking the words with your finger and using the pictures to solve the new words.

Math:

Number 7 Activity:

Use any small objects from home and create sets of 7--> 0+7, 1+6, 2+5, 3+4. How many are in each set? Which set is the largest? Which set is the smallest? How many do you have altogether? A helpful way to create sets is by taking a piece of paper or paper plate and drawing a line down the middle. Using your 7 objects, create two sets, one on each side of the line. This will help to clearly see how many are in each set.

It is important to read to your child each day and have them go outside for physical activity.

Check out Mr. MacKinnon’s Teacher Page for some fun and creative ideas to stay physically active!

Any completed work can be stored in the Home Learning Kit- until we return to in person learning at school to be placed in their binders.

Once again, thank you for all your support during this challenging time of Home Learning.

Any questions or anything you would love to share please send an email.

Letter Mm:

This week we are introducing the letter m. Mm makes the sound /m/. This sound is made by pressing your lips together and making a humming sound.

Activities:

In your Home Learning packet, take out your letter Mm mini book sheet and fold into a booklet. First, look at each picture in the book and name it. Next, point and read each word. Practice reading the book aloud to someone at home. You can also read to your pet or your favorite stuffie!

Sight Words: Today we are introducing our new words from List 2. These words are found on the index card with the List 1 words. The new words are: am at can

One way to practice recognizing the sight words is by writing them down on a piece of paper. Then point and read them aloud, and have your child point to the word when you say it.  Say the words in different orders. You can also add the words from last week when practicing this way too!

Writing: From your Home Learning packet, take out the sheet “I see the snowman”. Point and read each word. Then copy each word of the sentence on the lines. Remind your child that we put finger spaces between words so that we can read the words clearly. At the bottom of the page, draw a snowman.

Math:

ActivityUsing any small objects from home (macaroni, Lego, buttons, etc.) create sets of 6 --> 0+6, 1+5, 2+4, 3+3. How many are in each set? What is the total number? For example, 1 button + 5 buttons = 6 buttons in total. Show someone at home all of the combinations of 6 that you can make.
