Gr. 7- 15 mins. reading/night and record your pages on your bookmark. Bookmarks are due on Jan. 22. A new reading journal was assigned today. The prompt is as follows: Leaning In- In this week’s reading journal I’d like you to focus on the Leaning In strategy.  When you are reading, stop at a descriptive scene and lean in. What do you see? What do the characters look like? Where are they? What details do you picture in the setting? These are things that the author likely does not mention, but that you visualize in your mind’s eye as you’re reading. Please also give the page reference for the scene in case I want to check it out. Assigned Tuesday, Jan. 16, due Tuesday, Jan. 23. Please see the teach samples below.

7P & 7B- 15 mins. reading. Record your pages on your bookmark. While reading, practice visualizing strategy 1: Still Pictures and sketch a picture of what you visualize. Please include a one sentence description of the drawing as well as the page number from your book.

Both Gr. 7 & 8 students have a book talk due next week for LA. Attached you will find the hand out detailing the assignment that was sent home with all students (it was on an orange sheet). You will also find attached a teacher sample.

7B & 7P's book talks are due on Monday, Dec. 11.

8M's book talk is due on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Homeroom notices: Permission slips for the trip to Fredericton are due back. Our trip will be on Nov. 8. All students will need to be picked up at MAA @ 5:15 that day.

Nov. 24- clothing order is due.

7P- 15 mins. reading. Fill in your grey bookamark and get is signed by Thursday, Nov. 9. Work on revising and editing your persuasive piece.

7B- 15 mins. reading. Red bookamarks are due tomorrow. Work on revising and editing your persuasive piece.

8M- 15 mins. reading. Fill in grey bookmark and hand in on Thursday, Nov. 9. Reading Journal 2 is due tomorrow. Prompt: Question Strategy- Choose one of the questions you asked. What is it? What can you do to answer it?  Try to answer the question you asked, or make a prediction as to what you think the answer may be and explain. Use evidence from the text, and support your thinking with reasons.  See samples below.

Homeroom- 7P

Vaccinations forms as well as picture envelopes are due back tomorrow, Oct. 11.

Oct. 19 is picture re-take, sibling photo, and class photo day.

Skating will begin soon, so please make sure you get your skates and helmet ready for a fun season of skating!

There will be a hat day on Oct. 20 for a cost of $1.

Reading journal number 1 was assigned today- Making Connections: Does this book remind you of another book that you have read in the past? Does it remind you of something you have experienced in real life? Please explain to me two different connections you’ve had while reading.  Journals must be at least a ½ page single spaced.  They must be in proper sentence and paragraph form and clearly show your thinking.  Due Friday, Oct. 13.

RJ 1 was assigned today and is due on Friday. The prompt is on making connections. Please explain to me at least 2 connections that you have made in your reading. They can be text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world. Proper sentence and paragraph form is a must. Minimun of a 1/2 page single spaced. See teacher sample attached.

6A & 6B- The first reading journal of the year was assigned this week. The prompt is as follows: Making Connections (text to self, text to text, text to world).  Does this book remind you of another book that you have read in the past? Does it remind you of something you have experienced in real life?  Please tell me about two connections that you have had while reading. Each connection must be explained in its own paragraph. Your journal must be at least a ½ page single spaced.  They must be in proper sentence and paragraph form and clearly show your thinking.  DUE: Friday, Oct. 14.  Below there is a link to a teacher sample that I wrote on the novel we are reading together in class, Harry Potter. All students were also given the project guidelines for their first book talk. This is to be signed by a parent/guardian.

8A & 8E- reading journal one was returned this week. Students need to get it signed. The first book talk of the year was assigned this week. There is a one page guideline sheet in all students' reader's notebooks. Students need to choose what book they are going to present on and have a draft done of their book talk by Friday, Oct. 14. Computer lab dates to work on their powerpoint are Oct. 17 & 19.
